Therapy for birthing people

The perinatal period is one of profound change—a time of creation, transformation, and vulnerability. Whether you’re navigating the complexities of fertility, pregnancy, birth, or the postpartum period, these experiences can bring both immense joy and deep emotional challenges. Perinatal mental health therapy provides compassionate support for individuals facing anxiety, depression, birth trauma, and the often unspoken struggles of early parenthood.

Together, we’ll create a space for you to process the layered emotions of this journey, from the highs to the unseen, tender moments of uncertainty and fear. As a mother and trained doula, I bring both lived experience and professional expertise to our work. I aim to help you honor your own needs, process challenges like medical trauma or feelings of isolation, and reconnect with your intuition and inner strength as you navigate the beauty and complexity of parenthood.

I was trained as a birthworker in 2018 at Kindred Space LA, and am deeply passionate about supporting birthing people adjust and cope with all things related to birth. I can support birthing people with:

  • Grief and loss related to birth

  • Gender-inclusive perinatal/post-partum mental health

  • Processing birth trauma

Perinatal mood and anxiety disorders (PMADs) describe a group of symptoms that can affect birthing people during the pregnancy and post-partum period. These symptoms can disrupt functioning and make it difficult to access pleasure, feel grounded, or feel joy. Feelings of anxiety and depression can arise pre-pregnancy, during a pregnancy, and post-pregnancy.

I believe the birthing process is a transformational time for both the birthing person, and their family. Birthing is a life changing experience that can involve joy, grief, and anxiety all at once. I hope to support birthing people in adjusting to what they are going through within the birthing process, and to support them in accessing their power, resiliency, and strength.

perinatal trauma and emdr

The journey through pregnancy, birth, and postpartum can leave lasting emotional wounds, especially when marked by medical trauma, unexpected outcomes, or feelings of disempowerment. EMDR for perinatal trauma provides a safe space to process these experiences, address lingering fears or guilt, and reclaim a sense of agency and connection. This gentle yet effective method supports birthing people in healing deeply, allowing them to move forward with greater clarity and confidence.

Trauma during critical moments like a NICU or PICU stay, pregnancy complications, or experiences of medical trauma can leave lasting emotional imprints. EMDR offers a compassionate and effective way to process these overwhelming events, reducing symptoms like guilt, anxiety, and fear. Whether you’re navigating the emotional weight of a child’s medical journey, recovering from a difficult pregnancy, or recovering/enduring medical trauma, EMDR can help you reclaim your sense of safety, empowerment, and self-trust. This specialized approach supports you in moving beyond pain to find healing and hope.

Medical trauma and the challenges of receiving a complex diagnosis can also be deeply overwhelming. From navigating a confusing healthcare system to managing the stress of medical procedures and insurance hurdles, these experiences can take a significant emotional toll. EMDR provides a space to process these struggles, heal from feelings of helplessness or disconnection, and regain a sense of control and stability.
